Where to Eat Near Sunset Beach

Our Sharks Cove food truck is about a 7–8 minute drive (a little over 2 miles) southwest of Sunset Beach on Kamehameha Highway, at Pupukea Beach Park. It's the closest spot to grab fresh Baja fish tacos before or after a Sunset Beach day — walk-up window with ocean-view picnic tables, open daily 10 AM–8:30 PM.

Sunset Beach is a world-class big-wave surf spot in winter — roughly November through March — and a premier surf-watching destination, with the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing usually held in November–December (exact dates shift with the swell). Come watch the winter waves, then warm up with tacos at our truck. Summer is generally much calmer.

Sunset Beach is much calmer in summer, but it has strong currents (including the well-known Sunset Rip) and a powerful shorebreak year-round, and winter surf is hazardous. It's a guarded beach — only swim when lifeguards are on duty and between the posted flags, never enter when warning flags are up, and ask a lifeguard or check hioceansafety.com before going in.

Yes — there's a free public lot with restrooms and showers on the mauka (inland) side, plus roadside overflow parking. It fills up fast on weekends, holidays, the winter surf season, and clear sunset evenings, so arrive early — and use care crossing the highway on foot to reach the sand.
