★ About the Town

Visiting Haleiwa Town?

Haleiwa is the historic, plantation-era gateway to Oʻahu's North Shore — a State Historic, Cultural & Scenic District of roughly 30 preserved plantation-style buildings, now full of surf shops, art galleries, and boutiques. You'll pass the iconic 1921 double-arch Anahulu Stream Bridge (the "Rainbow Bridge"), the Haleiwa Small Boat Harbor, and the twin beach parks — Haleiwa Aliʻi Beach Park, a longtime home of North Shore surf contests, and Haleiwa Beach Park. It's the social hub of the North Shore loop drive, and the famous shave-ice stands are part of its plantation-town charm. From town, we're a short drive up the coast at Sharks Cove.

FAQs

↳ Mexican food & visiting near Haleiwa

Where can I get Mexican food in Haleiwa?

+

North Shore Tacos is the Haleiwa area's go-to for Baja-style Mexican food — fresh, never-frozen fish tacos, burritos, nachos, and plates. Our Sharks Cove food truck is parked at Pupukea Beach Park, about 10–15 minutes up the coast from historic Haleiwa town, with a walk-up window and ocean-view picnic tables. Open daily 10 AM–8:30 PM.

How far is North Shore Tacos from Haleiwa town?

+

Our Sharks Cove food truck is roughly a 10–15 minute drive up Kamehameha Highway from historic Haleiwa town — northeast and up the coast, past Laniakea and Waimea Bay, at Sharks Cove across from Pupukea Beach Park. It's in the Haleiwa (96712) area, not the town center, and drive times vary with North Shore traffic, especially on summer and winter surf weekends.

Is North Shore Tacos a food truck?

+

Yes — on the Haleiwa side we're a walk-up food truck at Sharks Cove, with outdoor ocean-view picnic tables, open daily 10 AM–8:30 PM. (We also have a full sit-down restaurant down the Windward coast in Hauʻula.) Either way, it's the same fresh, never-frozen Baja-style fish tacos that earned us #1 Fish Tacos in Hawaii from Sunset Magazine.

When is the best time to visit the Haleiwa-area beaches?

+

Summer (roughly May–October) is generally calmer; winter (roughly November–April) brings large, powerful North Shore surf that can reach 25 feet or more and draws big crowds. Haleiwa Aliʻi Beach Park is lifeguarded, but winter surf and rip currents make it hazardous — always follow on-duty lifeguards, posted flags, and live conditions at Hawaii Ocean Safety (oceansafety.hawaii.gov). Big swells can also gridlock the highway, so plan extra time.

Is there parking near Haleiwa and the food truck?

+

Parking is tight on the North Shore on weekends, holidays, and big-surf days. In Haleiwa town, the North Shore Marketplace lot is usually the most reliable, with free street parking and the Haleiwa Store Lots filling fast. At our Sharks Cove truck, there's free street parking along Kamehameha Highway plus a small public lot across the road at Pupukea Beach Park — arrive before 10 AM on weekends for the best shot.
